DEBT FREEDOM PLAN
The Bible speaks about debt and never in a positive way. Debt is looked at as a form of slavery; scripture warns readers not to fall into it, but if you do, to escape as soon as possible.
Now - in Biblical times, they didn’t have 2.5% mortgages, and fancy financial engines. There was no such thing as “good debt”. However, the principle is the same. Debt, usually, represents someone getting something they can’t afford - therefore allowing some person/institution to have “power” over the individual. God warns against this. Now, it’s not a command to not go into debt… however, it is deemed unwise. (Proverbs 22:7) The only thing God wants us to owe other people is love. (Romans 13:8).
In today’s modern age. Debt, at times, can be used to someone’s advantage (i.e. mortgage), but the Christian should be cautious, and wise, before using debt.
The desire of every Christian is to eventually be completely debt free. (Psalm 37:21) To pay off credit card balances (the whole thing!) every month. To live below our means.
